Areas of Activity
The Division of Pediatric Nephrology treats children with a wide variety of congenital as well as acquired kidney diseases, from birth to adulthood.
A sizeable portion of resources is devoted to treating children whose kidneys have failed and they require replacement therapy which include kidney transplantation or chronic dialysis.
The Division of Pediatric Nephrology comprises three units:
1) Pediatric Hemodialysis– this unit provides dialysis at the hospital at least three times a week for each patient.
2) Pediatric Peritoneal Dialysis Service, to be administered by parents at home, supported by ongoing instruction and close monitoring at our center.
3) Pediatric Nephrology Day-Hospital and Clinic. Within this framework, intravenous medical treatments are administered, clinical diagnostic investigations and follow-up of children who require multidisciplinary care are performed. The main population treated at this unit are children who have undergone kidney transplantation, children suffering from chronic kidney disease at varying degrees of severity and children with inflammatory kidney diseases.
Day Hospital and Clinic Information for Parents
At our center, special emphasis is placed on identification of kidney diseases of a genetic background alongside diagnosis and treatment of children with high blood pressure and kidney stones. The institute provides 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, analysis of the results and recommendations regarding diagnosis and treatment alternatives. Children with structural malformations of the kidney and urinary tract, diagnosed before or after birth, undergo evaluation and follow-up at the clinic.

Research
The Pediatric Nephrology Research Laboratory is directed by Dr. Ruth Belostotsky. Studies focus on identification of the genetic base of pediatric kidney diseases, in order to improve our understanding of kidney physiology, resulting in the improvement of care plans.
Several clinical studies are currently underway at the division, exploring unique aspects of chronic kidney diseases in children and those who have undergone renal transplantation, including:
1) Risk factors for cardiovascular disease among children suffering from chronic kidney disease and those who have undergone kidney transplants.
2) Heart function and vascular condition of children and young adults suffering from chronic kidney diseases.
3) Calcium, phosphate and vitamin D disorders in children with chronic kidney diseases.
