Immediately following birth, healthy babies spend 48 to 72 hours in one of our two brightly-decorated Well-Baby Nurseries, conveniently located close to Maternity Departments A and B. Mothers have free access to their babies at all hours. Mothers who wish to do so, can keep their babies by their side in their rooms, by prior arrangement.

The intensive care unit cares for any premature or term infant requiring intensive or special neonatal care. Normal healthy babies are cared for in the regular nurseries.

The first twenty-four hours of life are the most crucial period for the tiny neonate. Nearly ten percent of the babies born here every year require some time in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Our new and expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Complex is divided into three Units: Maximum, Intermediate, and Convalescent Neonatal Intensive Care Units. Each contains all the highly sophisticated electronic equipment necessary to monitor, control and sustain the life of these precious infants.

Shaare Zedek has a well-deserved reputation of expertise in caring for premature and sickly newborns.
