The Infectious Disease Unit's mandate is the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, both of those acquired in the community and in the hospital.

In addition, its staff is actively involved in the following:

The formulation, distribution and implementation of protocols for appropriate use of antimicrobials for treatment and prophylaxis.

Formulation and implementation of an extensive infection control program.

Teaching of medical students, residents and fellows.

Research activities, including clinical and basic research.

Fields of interest include:
hospital epidemiology and infection control
appropriate antimicrobial use
molecular diagnostics of viral diseases
applied biostatistics

Our physicians see patients in the hospital's out-patients' clinic. Visits can be scheduled through the hospital's operator 02-6555999. 
 
The Infectious Disease Unit's staff has written and published a pocket booklet, entitled "Appropriate use of antimicrobial agents and guidelines for infection control." This booklet was distributed to all the hospital's physicians and nurses and to interested professionals throughout Israel. The hospital's Intranet version is updated periodically.
