Laparoscopic Surgery
The department of Surgery is regarded as a national leader in advanced minimally invasive surgery, is known worldwide in this field and will host an international conference this summer on Laparoscopic Surgery.

Laparoscopic Surgery is advantageous to the patient by reducing postoperative pain and hospital stay, shortening recuperation and speeding up the return to normal life.

The department has invested in advanced laparoscopic training abroad, gained wide experience and acquired sophisticated, cutting-edge technology in order to be able to perform surgical procedures by minimally invasive surgery.

Laparoscopic Surgery Procedures currently carried out at Shaare Zedek include: Gastro-Intestinal Surgery, foregut surgery (including stomach, anti reflux, achalasia), colorectal (including total procto-colectomy with preservation of sphincters), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (including Crohns’ and Ulcerative Colitis), Adrenal, Kidney, Spleen, Pancreatic tumors, Retroperitoneal tumors, Obesity surgery and Diagnostic laparoscopy.

Several of these advanced laparoscopic surgical procedures are performed only in a select few medical centers worldwide.

Several units operate with in the department of surgery:
Vascular surgery
Breast surgery
Bariatric surgery
Trauma service

In addition to its clinical interests, the surgery department actively participates in academic research, publishing 8 – 10 papers annually, presenting findings at national and international conferences.
