The Pediatric Pulmonary Unit treats children from birth (including premature babies) until age 18, with all types of respiratory tract diseases.





These include:
Asthma
Persistent and recurrent pneumonia
Chronic lung disease of prematurity (BPD)
Congenital respiratory malformations
Cystic Fibrosis
Sleep apnea and disorders
Chronic pulmonary diseases

Our Unit offers inpatient and outpatient services including respiratory clinic and day hospitalization.

We also have a special clinic for monitoring and treatment of children at-risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

We give consultation services to the entire pediatric department.

The unit is equipped with a modernized pediatric bronchoscopy suite, and pediatric sleep and lung function test laboratories. 
 

Academic Activity
The department is academically affiliated with Hebrew University of Jerusalem and teaches medical students from Ben Gurion University of the Negev, making Shaare Zedek the only hospital in Israel providing extensive teaching to two out of Israel's four Faculties of Medicine.

The Unit is accredited by the Israeli Medical Association to instruct interns on rotation and medical students as well. Unit physicians initiate clinical research based on their clinical work, resulting in the publication of scientific studies in leading professional journals.
