Intraarticular Steroid injections (under anesthesia/sedation when necessary)
IV anti-inflammatory (biologic) medications, chemotherapy and steroids
Multidisciplinary Referrals
In the case of pediatric rheumatology patients, the need often arises for
further care from additional specialists. Therefore, the Unit works in close cooperation with all relevant disciplines, including: orthopedics,
ophthalmology, nephrology, neurology, cardiology, hematology, infectious diseases, radiology, dermatology, genetics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy and psychology (for pain syndromes).

Research
Prof. Hashkes has received research grants from the Arthritis Foundation and the Food and Drug Administration and was part of the research team on many National Institutes of Health grants. He consults at the National Institute of Health (NIH) autoinflammatory research clinic. He is a member in several US and international organizations devoted to the research of pediatric rheumatology and was a member of the Medical and Scientific Committee of the Northeast Ohio chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.
He has published more than 65 scientific papers and book chapters in
pediatric rheumatology and is a frequent lecturer in local and international medical meetings. His 2005 paper in JAMA describing evidence-based guidelines for the medical treatment of juvenile arthritis is considered of the most important papers on this topic in recent years. He was the pediatric rheumatology section editor of the Current Opinion in Rheumatology journal.
