Instructions for Patients Undergoing Overnight Examinations at the Lab
Patients arrive at the designated time (usually 9 p.m.for adults, 8 p.m. for children), after having eaten dinner and showered at home.
Patients must bring:
* Medical insurance coverage ("hitchayvut")
* A letter of referral ("hafnaya")
* Comfortable clothes for sleeping/pajamas.
* Any medication taken before bed
* Any equipment children might need during the night: diapers, pacifiers, bottles, formula, etc.
* Personal pillow/blanket - the sleep lab provides bedding but patients who'd be more comfortable with their own are free to bring them. Children are encouraged to bring favorite toys and books in addition to their blanket etc.
What to expect upon arrival at the lab:
Patients are requested to fill out several forms and questionnaires. After their completion, they get ready for bed in the designated room. When ready,the technologist prepares them for the test. This involves attaching electrodes and sensors to the head, face, limbs and trunk of the body. None of the sensors are invasive and while it might be a little uncomfortable this procedure is not painful. Once the technologist has checked that everything is working, the patient may sleep till morning. Throughout the night, patients can go to the bathroom freely.
