The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Department, recently expanded and renovated entirely, is now a spacious, attractive part of the Pediatrics Division at Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

The department's mission is to provide care to those patients referred to it from:

Community clinics (Kupot Cholim)

Emergency medicine and night centers (such as Terem)

Family physicians and Pediatricians

Independent, self referrals by parents

Department staff does its best to provide the most efficient, highest quality, speedy, courteous care.

We know that the natural surroundings of each infant and child is in the home. Therefore, we only hospitalize those requiring hospital care which cannot be offered at home. Follow-up care is important to us and thus we make an effort to contact the family's doctor in order to share consultation, provide updates on treatments provided by us and information regarding further care.

We serve a vast, diverse population from the entire greater-Jerusalem area.

We treat children from birth through age 16 (in the field of psychiatry we offer care through age 18).

Furthermore, we receive children coping with chronic diseases in the disciplines of: nephrology, gastroenterology, rheumatology and other, for as long as they are followed up by pediatricians.

We treat many cases of trauma.

The number of children treated in the pediatric emergency room fluctuates between 30-60, with great variance on different days and seasons as well as from one shift to the next.

The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Department is divided into external and internal sections.

The external section includes:

A special room designated for triage and preliminary, quick diagnosis

Five examination rooms for speedy check-ups

A treatment room

An ear-nose-throat room

The internal section - also known as "the hot circle" - includes:

Twelve booths for treatment of more complex cases

A protective insulated room

An isolation room

An inhalation care area (able to house up to 6 patients)

In the near future, a shock and trauma room will be established, to which ambulances with be provided with direct access.

Professional Team
Our team includes experienced nurses, physicians specializing in pediatric medicine, and all day long, through midnight there is also a senior physician on staff who instructs, supervises and overseas the quality of diagnosis and care.
