The Geriatric Institute offers courses throughout the academic year which are accredited by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Welfare for continuing education credits (hishtalmut) for professionals in eldercare.

Shortly after they founded Melabev, Prof. Arnold Rosin, former Director of the Geriatric Department in Shaare Zedek, and Leah Abramowitz, MSW, geriatric social worker, also developed the Geriatric Institute at Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

Its curriculum reflects the successful innovative program features of the Melabev day centers, along with other issues in gerontology. Twice a year seminars are held of 3-days' duration in out-of-town guest houses, which include lectures, discussions, documentary films, workshops and site visits to various other care centers for the elderly. Y'mei Iyun (one day study days) are held at various times throughout the year.

There are courses on Alzheimer's disease and dementia and specialized therapies for working with the elderly like art therapy, snoezelen therapy, and aromatherapy. There are also courses on memory improvement. The Institute has educated a generation of geriatric professionals - you can be part of that group in the future. The Institute has always offered courses in Hebrew. Now it also offers courses in English and sponsers a 3-Day International Study Tour that includes site visits and lectures by renowned professionals. The upcoming one will be in Eilat.

New courses starting soon.
