Electives for Medical Students
Medical students,
Want to turn your elective into an unforgettable experience?

Come to Shaare Zedek in Jerusalem!

Jerusalem, the eternal capital of Israel, is a vibrant, multicultural metropolis. Shaare Zedek Medical Center, centrally located opposite Mount Herzl, has accompanied the city's dramatic history for over a century. Combining excellent medicine with compassionate care, from early 20th century typhoid patients to contemporary terror victims, Shaare Zedek has accumulated invaluable experience in numerous medical fields. Students of all religions are welcome to take part in shaping the medical world of tomorrow, inspired by 5000 years of Jewish tradition.

Shaare Zedek Medical Center is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and participates in the teaching of fourth, fifth and sixth year medical students.

Electives at Shaare Zedek are held throughout the year and must be a minimum of three weeks in duration. The program is intended for medical students who have completed at least two years of a four-year program, three years of a five program or four years of a six-year program. A wide selection of electives is available in departments throughout the hospital. Shaare Zedek offers this opportunity to medical students at no charge.

Students will take part in all routine departmental activities and will be taught through bedside instruction, and seminars. Theoretical lectures are not given as part of this program. The work in the departments is carried out in Hebrew although many of the hospital's staff are multi-lingual.

Regular attendance is required  5 days a week (Sunday through Thursday). There will be occasional days off for official holidays.  Students must sign in daily and notify the program's office of any days missed. Unjustified absences will not be recognized as part of the elective.

On completion of the elective period students will receive appropriate evaluation forms.
