The Australian Friends for Shaare Zedek has launched a number of exciting new initiatives in support of the hospital marking another step forward in the years of historic partnership between Shaare Zedek and our friends down under.
Just recently, the directors of the Australian Friends organization, consisting entirely of volunteers based in Melbourne, launched an interactive new website to help the Australian community become better familiarized with the work of the hospital.
The site at
http://www.shaarezedek.org.au/ profiles the ongoing work of the organization as well highlights from the hospital with a special focus on the many years of partnership between Australia and Shaare Zedek.
“We are always deeply encouraged by the extremely strong connection that exists between our friends in Australia and Shaare Zedek,” says Uri Schwarz, Director of International Operations at Shaare Zedek. “Despite the many thousands of miles that separate us, we are able to have a very productive partnership and one that has been extremely beneficial in helping develop our hospital.”
Among the initiatives spearheaded by the Australian Friends in addition to the website was a national fundraising drive that spanned synagogues all over the country. The Australian Friends have taken a special interest in supporting the Wilf Children’s Hospital and have already supported numerous efforts within that ambitious development project. A special commemorative wall for projects supported by the Australian Friends now hangs on the Fourth Floor adjacent to Shaare Zedek’s main lobby.
“Our Australian Friends are proof of what true support for the ideals and future of Shaare Zedek is all about,” says Mr. Schwarz. “These are people who really understand our hospital and our goals for the people of Jerusalem and Israel and we feel very proud and appreciative to have them on board.”
