Areas of Activity
Shaare Zedek's devoted community of volunteers is a diverse group. Close to 350 men and women volunteer regularly at Shaare Zedek along with several hundred others who round out the hospital's core of volunteers. Additionally, about 120 young men and women volunteer in fulfillment of their national service. There are Israel Prison Service volunteers, community service volunteers, high school students as part of their Personal Commitment project in 10th grade, university students participating in Social Community Service projects, individual youth and adults, and volunteers from institutions for people with disabilities.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life with a guiding principle being their willingness to help others. Most volunteers help the nursing staff in the medical departments with basic nursing tasks. Others work in administrative departments, assisting doctors with transcription and other office related responsibilities.

Additional projects include:
Patient Visitation - volunteers visit lonely patients
Matania - a gift shop operated entirely by volunteers
Ya'al - an organization operating shops for the convenience of patients and visitors

The volunteer population is very diverse. Some volunteer for decades, rain or shine, a symbol of ultimate devotion, passionately seeking to alleviate patients' suffering and aid the staff.
Spoken Hebrew is a necessary skill for all our volunteers.

The volunteers' enormous contribution is recognized and cherished by all: doctors, nurses and administrative teams.
