The Shaare Zedek Medical Center’s Catheterization Unit, headed by Dr. Yaron Almagor, presented three breakthrough cardiovascular intervention procedures, live to an audience of approximately 2,000 people at an international cardiologists convention (ICI) last week in Tel Aviv.
For the first time in Israel, live TV broadcasts showed a mitral valve replacement, using an innovative peg enabling valve atria to hold together for repair; a new heart pump transplant allowing blood flow even during low heart activity; transplanting a new aortal valve in complex anatomy, and opening the coronary artery in a young patient using intra-arterial simulation and new stents. The procedures were carried out by Dr. Almagor and Dr. Rafi Woolf in Shaare Zedek’s advanced catheterization room and broadcast live to the main hall at the convention.
The Cardiovascular Intervention Unit at Shaare Zedek was selected to present these revolutionary procedures to specialists and investors from all over the globe. The unit serves as a center of excellence in the catheterization field and staff participate in research studies and in the latest breakthroughs in the field. Both local and foreign medical teams come to Shaare Zedek to learn these new technologies.
