Endocrinology is the science that deals with hormones. Many aspects of women’s health are related to hormonal influences.
The Gynecological and Obstetric Endocrinology Clinic at Shaare Zedek Medical Center was opened to provide solutions for women with problems covering both fields.
It is a unique clinic, the only one of its kind in Jerusalem, combining treatment of gynecological problems with treatment of endocrinological problems. Among other things, the clinic addresses the following:
•    Endocrinological problems during pregnancy including excessive or reduced activity of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, growths in the pituitary gland and Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH).
•    Monitoring pregnancy for women with endocrinological problems not considered to be influential on the pregnancy process, such as Addison’s Disease, Diabetes Insipidus (a rare disease in which the pituitary gland secretes a reduced amount of the hormone that regulates urine secretion) and others.
•    Gynecological aspects of endocrinological diseases including blood regulation, contraceptives and more.
•    Endocrinological problems in adolescents including multi-disciplinary treatment of PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and CAH.
•    Menopause and osteoporosis.
•    Pre-pregnancy diabetes and diabetes during pregnancy, including matching the appropriate insulin pumps, sensors and more (only at the Bikur Cholim campus).
Women contacting the clinic will receive nursing, nutritional and medical treatment appropriate to lifestyle changes, drugs-based treatment if necessary and high-risk pregnancy monitoring. At the Bikur Cholim campus there are also specific ultrasound tests for assessing ovaries in adolescent girls.
