The Obstetric and Gynecologic Ultrasound Unit at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center examines all women hospitalized in the various departments, women referred to regular ER or Obstetric ER and women referred by the health agencies for regular tests.
Nine senior obstetricians and gynecologists work at the unit, all of whom have undergone special ultrasound training. They administer tests for a range of problems, including:
•    System scanning
•    Nuchal translucency
•    Directed scans
•    Fetal development disorders evaluation
•    Uterus and ovary normality tests
•    Ultrasound-guided invasive obstetric procedures – piercing amniotic fluid, placental villi sampling and fetal blood sampling
•    Ultrasound-guided invasive gynecological procedures – cyst suction and invasive treatment in in-vitro pregnancies
The Unit is equipped with some of the most advanced ultrasound machinery and is operational 24 hours a day.

For the last few years, an innovative clinic has been operating in the unit for managing pregnancies in which structural fetal defects have been identified.  Patients from all health agencies are referred here after fetal developmental diagnosis. These women undergo a comprehensive evaluation by Unit doctors, a pediatric cardiologist and genetic counseling.
Later, a multi-disciplinary forum discusses each individual case. They give their summaries and recommendations to the couple and this makes managing the pregnancy and treating the infant much easier. This approach allows for good birth preparation and a treatment continuum at the hands of professionals the couple has met before the birth.
The Unit works in tandem with all the other units in the Gynecological and Obstetrics Departments, the Medical Genetics Unit, Cardiology, Neurology, Orthopedics and Pediatric Surgery. Referral to the Unit is via the Gynecological and Obstetrics Division or the health agencies.
