The ENG (Electronystagmogram) Institute conducts evaluations of the balance system connected to the inner ear and the brain, a field known as Otoneurology. The check-up involves a simultaneous stimulation of balance and testing whether there is a normal or pathological (abnormal, indicating possible illness) reaction reflected in the patient’s eye movements. These movements are filmed by a video camera placed close to the eye and the data is transmitted to a computer. The results are then passed on to the patient’s doctor, who will decide if and what treatment is necessary.

This examination serves both as a diagnostic tool for disease or trauma and as a monitoring aid before and after surgery or treatment, for example, before deciding whether to have a cochlear implant.
