In cases when there is a suspected problem in the mid small intestine, we perform an electronic endoscope exam, through innovative technological means. The patient swallows a capsule, just a little larger than a regular pill, containing a tiny camera which transmits images as the capsule descends through the intestine. This test enables a review of the entire small intestine without the need for an invasive test. However, in the case of small children, there is sometimes a need to endoscopically place the capsule at the beginning of the small intestine.
This technology is included in the Healthcare Basket and its cost is covered by the HMOs (Kupot Cholim). A note of referral from a pediatric gastroenterologist is required for this test.
