How to continue the clarification and treatment process once there is a suspicion your baby has DDH suspicion

Why continue the investigation into DDH?
DDH has a very significant impact on the normal development of your child’s hip joints. So if there is any suspicion of DDH in your child, it is imperative to deal with it. Neglecting it could lead to hip damage and limping.

Why not start the treatment right away?
In many cases, the joint may heal on its own, even if the initial findings are suspicious. And since the treatment also carries risks, we only recommend treatment in cases that really need it. Therefore, children with a borderline suspicion will be asked to come back for repeat tests at the age of 4 weeks.

How do we coordinate continued treatment outside the hospital?
Make an appointment with a pediatric orthopedic specialist (either at your Kupat Holim or privately) and he or she will give your child a hip joint ultrasound exam. When you make the appointment, make sure they understand it is for the purposes of diagnosing and treating possible DDH.

Clalit: Call *2700 and make an appointment for a hip joint ultrasound (which includes an orthopedic examination). You can also do this via their website: www.clalit.co.il

Maccabi: Call *3555 and make an appointment for a hip joint ultrasound (which includes an orthopedic examination). You can also do this via their website: www.maccabi-health.co.il

Meuhedet: Call *3833 and make an appointment for a hip joint ultrasound. When you make the appointment, check whether it is an orthopedic specialist who will examine your child or whether you need to make another appointment to see a pediatric orthopedic specialist. You can also make an appointment via their website: www.meuhedet.co.il

Leumit: Call 1-700-507-507 and make an appointment for a hip joint ultrasound (which includes an orthopedic examination). You can also do this via their website: www.leumit.co.il

If you want to do it independently: You can make an appointment for a hip joint ultrasound at any ultrasound center. Make sure the person conducting the examination is qualified to do so and to make a DDH diagnosis. Because if the ultrasound is carried out by someone not familiar with the method, there could be problems in the standard interpretation. After the test, go to a pediatric orthopedic specialist with the results (many orthopedic doctors conduct the test themselves.)

How do we continue the treatment if the Pavlik Harness or a spreading device have already been installed in the hospital?
Your doctor will give you detailed instructions about when to do the ultrasound. In most cases, treatment will be coordinated with your Kupat Holim. In certain cases we will invite you to come for monitoring at the Pediatric Orthopedics Clinic at Shaare Zedek.
