Nursing at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center has been known for its professionalism and ethical excellence ever since the days of Schwester Selma, the first Head Nurse at the hospital.
There are currently approximately 1,400 nurses working at Shaare Zedek.
The Nursing Management believes in creating an organizational culture that encourages quality, high service-awareness, study, growth and professional clinical development.
The nurses at Shaare Zedek manage nursing treatment in tandem with the multi-disciplinary treatment and by intelligently using hospital resources to improve the health and welfare of both patients and families.
Nurses are full partners in all of the structural programs and changes at the hospital so they can continue to provide suitable responses to patients' needs. For example, when the new Emergency Room opened in 2004 – the nursing staff were full partners in the building and development processes.
The nurses themselves initiate change too, by developing broad areas of training to help patients at every stage: before an operation, upon mother and baby leaving for home, breastfeeding, natural birth, writing nursing-related letters to retirement homes or the patient's community, computerization and many other fields.
