Shaare Zedek: Helmsley Neurological Trauma Center Dedicated

The Shaare Zedek Medical Center recently dedicated the Helmsley Neurological Center, built with the generous help of the Helmsley Charitable Trust.

The new facility will help turn the Shaare Zedek Medical Center into a “super-regional” trauma center, now offering comprehensive and holistic treatment for complex trauma cases, saving valuable time and increasing chances of survival and recovery for the victims.
Prof. Yonatan Halevy, Shaare Zedek’s Director-General, “Thanks to the generosity of the Helmsley Charitable Trust, we are now able to treat all types of head injuries and provide full and comprehensive medical treatment without needing any outside assistance. This is good news for Jerusalem and the region as a whole, and positions Shaare Zedek as one of the most advanced hospitals in Israel.”

Shaare Zedek is the closest medical center to Jerusalem’s city center. Since the latest round of terror attacks began – in September 2015 – the hospital has treated many of the victims as well as dealing with other trauma victims. The “Helmsley Neurological Center” will allow us to treat victims quickly and efficiently, under one roof and with a leading team of experts.

Jerusalem Mayor, Nir Barkat, thanked the Helmsley Charitable Trust for its donation and said, “On behalf of the residents of Jerusalem, I want to thank the Helmsley Charitable Trust for facilitating the addition of an advanced trauma unit so critical to the city. This significant contribution will strengthen Jerusalem and enhance the medical treatment we offer to our citizens and visitors.”
The upgraded unit will also treat stroke victims and other patients suffering from neurological injuries and disorders. It will keep abreast of the latest research and adopt the most advanced medical techniques available. As Sandy Frankel, a trustee of the Leona and Harry Helmsley Charitable Trust, said: “Shaare Zedek is a center of excellence and a leader in saving lives. We are proud to establish the Helmsley Neurological Center which will be able to treat complicated cases – stroke victims and others – and so contribute to improving lives for residents of Jerusalem and the surrounding areas.”
