Department of Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy focuses on functional aspects related to the musculoskeletal system, promoting health and improving the quality of life. Its aim is to assist patients in returning to active and independent lives as much as possible. Treatments are carried out through the use of manual techniques, movement skills, various exercises, and more.

Physiotherapists treat diverse populations of all ages and in various hospital departments, including pediatrics, internal medicine, oncology, hematology, surgery, cardiac care, geriatrics, orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery, obstetrics, and more. The treatment is provided to patients whose respiratory function has been affected due to illness, surgery, prolonged hospitalization, injury, or accident.

The physiotherapy team consists of around 30 physiotherapists who work in all hospital departments and in the outpatient clinic. Most treatments are carried out bedside or in the hospital ward, using assistive devices according to the patient's functional and medical condition. If necessary, rehabilitation is also provided in the geriatric rehabilitation hall, using additional equipment such as weights, steps, parallel bars, adjustable stairs, stationary bicycles, physiotherapy balls, and fitness machines.

All types of physiotherapy treatments are determined based on the physiotherapist's decision after consultation with the department's physician and a functional assessment.

The physiotherapy department at the hospital deals with several main treatment areas:

1. Respiratory Physiotherapy: Aims to assist efficient respiratory function in conditions such as acute lung inflammation, chronic lung diseases, acute respiratory infections, prevention of respiratory complications following abdominal or chest surgeries, neurological conditions causing respiratory muscle weakness, respiratory difficulties due to structural chest defects, rib fractures, and more.

2. Functional Rehabilitation: Required following fractures, surgeries, injuries, neurological events, Parkinson's disease, muscle weakness, growths, and more. Functional rehabilitation is also provided to patients experiencing overall functional decline due to prolonged hospitalization and bed rest.

The physiotherapy team provides guidance to patients and their families/caregivers during hospitalization to improve the patient's condition, including guidance toward discharge from the hospital.

The department offers a variety of treatments, both for inpatients and in the outpatient setting, including treatment for orthopedic problems, sports injuries, neurological diseases, road accidents, surgeries, and other chronic conditions.

The physiotherapy department is committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based, and empathetic care while maintaining direct communication with the treating physician, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals. The department is equipped with advanced equipment, including anti-gravity devices, allowing for a wide range of personalized treatments tailored to each patient's needs.

Throughout the hospitalization, the patient and their family are actively involved in the treatment process, setting treatment goals, healing, and recovery.
