The Day After - Rehabilitation for Women Recovering from Breast Cancer

Breast cancer constitutes the largest percentage of all cancer cases among women (25% of cancer diagnoses). With medical advancements, the mortality rate from breast cancer has been decreasing over the years.

However, following treatments, many women experience severe side effects, including extreme fatigue, weight gain, lymphedema, joint pain, sleep disturbances, depression, neuropathy, menopausal symptoms, and more. These side effects significantly impact their quality of life and their return to full functionality even after completing treatments.

Many women report that the "return to life" after treatment is even harder than the treatment period itself.

That's why we are here with you.

The "Day After" program was born out of the needs that arose during regular visits with patients at the oncologist's office. It is designed to provide support for women after completing oncological treatments and during hormonal therapy (lasting between 5 to 10 years after radiation and chemotherapy).

Regular physical activity is known to reduce fatigue, improve depressive symptoms, alleviate pain, and assist in weight loss.

The program takes place at Shaare Zedek's Sports Medicine Center, located in the Arena complex, and lasts for half a year. The group is closed and consists of up to 15 women. It includes physical training in the gym twice a week, guided by a physiotherapist, with close support from a lymphatic physiotherapist.

Additionally, once a week, after the training session, the women have a meeting with various professionals, including a lymphatic physiotherapist, pelvic floor physiotherapist, psychologist, nutritionist, gynecologist specializing in menopausal symptoms, and sex counselor.

Due to high demand, we have opened a continuation group for program graduates.

From thank-you letters, we received:

  • "I felt like someone was holding my hand and helping me through this journey."
  • "I see a direct connection between starting my training with you and a reduction in the side effects of the medications."
  • "I cannot find enough words to thank you for the support and encouragement..."
  • "The program was much more than just sports; it gave me the confidence to step on solid ground and start walking..."
