The Sports Medicine Center

The new Shaare Zedek Center for Sports Medicine provides diagnostic, counseling and treatment services for all Jerusalem residents engaging in physical activity, and for professional athletes and leading sports teams.

Athletes competing in competitions are often required to undergo pre-season examinations in accordance with the Sports Law. Such tests can only be performed at a sports medicine facility officially recognized by the Ministry of Health. These tests are designed to identify problems and conditions that might ultimately cause illness, injury and even sudden death.

The Shaare Zedek Sports Medicine Center is the facility for both professional and amateur athletes, for physical training enthusiasts, and for those seeking to combine physical activity and training in their daily routine, whether to improve their achievements, for good health, weight loss or maintaining a healthy weight.

Physical training is recommended for anyone who wants to be in shape and improve the quality of his or her life. A volume of medical studies proves that personalized and supervised physical training improves quality of life, prevents disease and injury, generates energy and vitality, and contributes to longevity. On the other hand, physical training at a more advanced age, especially for those who have not led an active life for a prolonged period, and without professional guidance, could be harmful and even dangerous.

The center employs a multidisciplinary team of sports experts (a sports doctor and sports dietitians, a stress physiolgist and physiotherapist) who tailor the training programs to the individual by advanced tests that evaluate aerobic fitness and other physical fitness components. In addition, individuals can conduct an RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) test, following which it is possible to provide a precise and customized menu in conjunction with physical activity.

During the visit to the center, you can take blood tests; undergo physical examination and an ECG, as well as have your blood pressure measured both at rest and as part of a stress test. Blood tests are not legally required, but can help detect missing minerals and vitamins required to improve performance.
