Shaare Zedek’s Pre-Operative (Pre-Op) Clinic plans and coordinates treatment for patients about to undergo surgery. The clinic is also the patient’s first encounter with the hospital and serves to allay fears, provide information and answer questions. The team offers evaluations and medical and nursing guidance for each patient awaiting surgery.
The clinic serves all the surgical departments: Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Orthopedics, Urology, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiology.
Please note: the day of the visit to the Pre-Op Clinic is not the day of the operation itself.
Before coming to the clinic, please prepare the following documents:
- Referral for surgery from the referring doctor.
- Blood and urine tests, ECG, chest X-ray, ultrasound and/or CT mapping, and any other test the patient was asked to undergo by the referring doctor.
- A letter from your doctor. Obligatory!
- Please bring relevant medical confirmation if the patient suffers or has suffered from any background diseases.
- A guarantee for the Pre-Op Clinic from your kupat holim and a similar guarantee (or alternative financial arrangement) for hospitalization.
The process lasts a few hours. We recommend bringing a book or something else with which to occupy your time, a light meal, drinks and – if relevant – games for your child.
The Visit to the Clinic
Upon arrival at the hospital, go to the Patient Reception office on the 4th Floor to open a hospitalization file. They will then send you to the Pre-Op Clinic on the 5th Floor.
The clinic secretary will prepare the necessary paperwork and assign you to the various stations:
- A nurse will check pulse, blood pressure, weight and conduct any other tests deemed necessary. She will guide you and answer any questions.
- A doctor will explain what is going to happen during the surgery, list any possible complications and answer your questions.
- The anesthetist will explain the aim of the anesthesia and the specific type you are going to receive. He or she will also be happy to answer any questions you may have about the anesthesia.
The doctor and anesthetist you meet in the Pre-Op Clinic will not necessarily be the same ones you will meet in the operating room.
After your visit to the Pre-Op Clinic, you will go home and we will confirm the date of your surgery. We will also provide guidelines in advance of the operation.
The date and time of your surgery will be coordinated with you but also determined by medical priorities and the current waiting list.
