Consultation before and Monitoring after Surgery

Consultation with a doctor for initial assessment and referral to surgery
Any initial assessment regarding elective surgery is conducted in an out-patients clinic. Patients are examined by a specialist in the relevant field and together they put together a personalized diagnostic/treatment program.

Post-surgery monitoring
Part of the overall treatment is a routine monitoring service after the patient has been discharged. Patients are invited to the out-patients clinic for check-ups after surgery and – if necessary – continued treatment. This is also an opportunity for the patient to receive answers to any questions that may have arisen.

The Laparoscopic Approach

Most procedures can be performed laparoscopically through several tiny incisions (5-10 mm) around the navel, eliminating the need to open the abdominal cavity using a long incision across the entire abdomen. After the incisions are done, the abdomen swelled by filling it with CO2 (after the procedure is complete, the gas is pumped out). Following this, the surgeon inserts into the abdomen an optic fiber with a camera connected to a screen. This allows the surgeon to see everything that is done inside the abdomen. Other tubes called trocars are inserted as well, and through them the special instruments used to perform the surgery.

Coping Emotionally with Surgery

The dictionary defines an operation as “an invasive medical act to improve the patient’s medical state.” This definition contains the two emotional extremes a person experiences during the surgery period: pain and hope, fear and faith, invasiveness and growth.
