A shared clinic with the high-risk pregnancy unit offers comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for expectant mothers and fetuses. This clinic provides personalized care, getting to know couples and their offspring. Some couples experience maternal antibodies targeting proteins present on the fetus's red blood cells or platelets due to the partner's genetic influence. While the woman herself is not affected, these antibodies passing to the fetal bloodstream during pregnancy can potentially lead to a decrease in platelets or red blood cells, risking severe bleeding or anemia during pregnancy and up to several months postpartum.

In this joint clinic, the diagnostic process is conducted using a specialized laboratory at Rambam Medical Center. We offer guidance, closely monitor, and provide care throughout the pregnancy to prevent the development of antibodies. Birth plans are tailored to prevent harm to the newborn, and we follow up with both the newborn and mother during recovery. Each family is known personally, and they can go through pregnancy with the assurance of having support.

At the clinic, a comprehensive and ongoing assessment is conducted to monitor various blood disorders or the development of growths in children who have been diagnosed with a genetic disease or syndrome. As part of the recent advancements in genetic diagnoses of diseases and syndromes, it has become possible to identify these conditions in children even before they exhibit the hematological and oncological manifestations of their condition. Possible hematological complications include clotting disorders associated with a tendency to bleed and bone marrow activity failure. In such cases, we may provide timely recommendations prior to surgical procedures or suggest treatments like bone marrow transplantation.

Possible oncological complications involve the development of malignant and benign growths that are highly prevalent in these patients, necessitating early detection to improve their healing prospects. We perform periodic screening tests in accordance with the most up-to-date global recommendations.

The cross-disciplinary clinic specializing in the treatment of congenital and vascular anomalies (issues with blood vessels) at Shaare Zedek Medical Center provides professional and focused care for congenital and vascular issues.

Congenital and vascular anomalies can arise during pregnancy and manifest from birth to adulthood. Approximately 10% of newborns are born with some form of vascular anomaly, either developing during their early years. In most cases, the anomaly resolves on its own. In isolated cases, aesthetic damage remains, and at times, there can be significant and life-threatening damage, expressed through pressure on blood vessels and vital organs, swelling, hematomas, and more.

The clinic examines each patient's case and assists them in choosing the optimal treatment. Patients who suffer from angiomas (blood vessel growths), deformities in veins or arteries, lymphatic malformations, as well as complex cases with simultaneous symptoms, come to the clinic. The clinic is managed by Dr. Adam Parkash (Angiography Institute) and its members include Prof. Mickey Wintroub and other specialists in orthopedics, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, hand surgery, pediatric surgery, and imaging.

The clinic offers periodic monitoring for children and adults with these syndromes. Among those diagnosed with these syndromes, there is a high prevalence of various medical difficulties, including cognitive impairments, neurological disorders, visual decline, scoliosis, additional orthopedic disorders, and a tendency towards benign growths.

To provide comprehensive care, patients meet with a team of specialists during the clinic day. All specialists convene for a collaborative session to facilitate shared opinions and treatment plans.

Platelets are blood cells that function as the key component of blood clotting by arriving at the site of injury, adhering to numerous other platelets, and releasing substances that encourage the continued aggregation of platelets at the site. This process is essential for halting bleeding caused by various injuries[1]. When recurrent bleeding events occur due to an undiagnosed cause, an evaluation of platelet function is necessary. In collaboration with the laboratory system, a laboratory for diagnosing platelet dysfunction has been established. The laboratory assesses platelet function using the FACS method.
