Pediatric Nephrology Institute

About

The Institute of Pediatric Nephrology at Shaare Zedek Medical Center was established by Prof. Alfred Drukker in 1977. We treat children with congenital and acquired kidney problems from infancy until adulthood. Many resources are devoted to caring for children with chronic kidney disease who require dialysis or kidney transplantation.

Our approach is comprehensive, and includes a multi-disciplinary team of physicians, nurses, dietitian, social worker and teachers. The kidney clinic and day hospital are separate from the dialysis units. We also diagnose and treat children with hypertension, including performing ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.

Research Laboratory

The research laboratory of the Children's Nephrology Institute is engaged in identifying the hereditary basis of kidney diseases in children with the intention of improving the understanding of renal physiology and improving treatment plans.

Some of our current active research projects include: a novel breakthrough treatment for children with primary hyperoxaluria type 1, the genetic basis of kidney stones and hereditary kidney diseases, molecular characterization of nephrotic syndrome, unique metabolic characteristics of children treated with dialysis or after kidney transplantation, and renal complications of prematurity.

The institute takes part in several international collaborations and studies.

Important Information for patients

The pediatric nephrology clinic and day hospital are on the sixth floor in the pediatric wing. Appointments must be made with the secretary. If an ultrasound or other consultation is needed, please make sure you ask the secretary to book the visits on the same day.

Please make sure to bring the correct financial cover from your health fund (Kupat cholim) ("HITCHAYVUT"):

· A clinic visit ("MIRPAA") covers a pediatric nephrologist visit

Day hospital ("ISHPUZ YOM") covers, in addition to a doctor's visit, blood and urine laboratory tests, ultrasound, other tests and consultations as necessary

Upon arrival, you should go first to the main pediatric ambulatory reception on the sixth floor, there you will receive stickers, which you will then take with you to the pediatric nephrology clinic secretary.

Each patient will be seen first by the nurse, including measuring height, weight and blood pressure, before being seen by a doctor.

Patients will be seen according to their appointment time, not arrival time, with the exception of urgent cases.

Each patient will be seen by a pediatric nephrologist, it is not possible to book an appointment for a specific physician.

In the clinic there is a recreation area with professional staff from the ministry of education, which you are invited to enjoy while waiting for the doctor.

Please let us know if there is any change in your personal details (address, telephone number etc) or if you need to change or cancel an appointment.
