Research and Development at Shaare Zedek Medical Center is experiencing unprecedented growth. The number of articles published by Shaare Zedek researchers is increasing year by year. There are currently around 1,000 ongoing research projects within the hospital, and approximately 400 new research proposals are submitted for approval by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) each year. In 2022, there were 300 collaborations with external organizations. Research activities are an integral part of the hospital's ongoing work, aimed at advancing and enhancing medical practices.

Evidence of the extent of clinical trials can be found in a report by the Ministry of Health summarizing the relationships between medical institutions and commercial companies for conducting research in 2021. According to this report, Shaare Zedek is ranked fourth in terms of income generated from collaborative research with the industry.

Excellent Programs and Internal Grants

Since the establishment of the Research and Development Authority at Shaare Zedek in 2011, various diverse research programs have been implemented. An affiliation agreement was signed with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, internal grants were established to support independent research led by Shaare Zedek researchers, and a scientific fund for research was established, granting hundreds of thousands of shekels to support twenty research proposals each year.

Hospital management, together with the Research and Development Authority, has been promoting strategic research programs, including physician-researcher programs, collaborations with the Faculty of Medicine and the Institute of Life Sciences, and research promotion programs for specialists, as part of training the future generation of researchers.
