Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine

The Pediatric Emergency Department - Children's Triage Unit, which opened about seven years ago, is spacious and well-equipped. It operates as part of the Pediatrics Division and attends to patients referred from health clinics, TRM centers, nighttime clinics, family physicians, pediatricians, as well as parents seeking independent care.

The department's team provides high-quality, efficient, courteous, and prompt care. It is important to emphasize that a child's natural place is in their home. Hospitalization occurs only when a child requires treatment that cannot be provided at home. After hospital treatment, the attending physician in the community is contacted to update them on the child's condition and collaborate on the necessary post-hospitalization care. The department caters to a diverse and extensive population from Jerusalem and its surroundings, encompassing newborns to 18-year-olds. Additionally, children with chronic diseases in various fields such as nephrology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, and other pediatric specialties, who are still under the care of a pediatrician, are admitted. Even cases of minor trauma find treatment with us, while in severe cases, treatment starts in the trauma room on the second floor and is continued in our department. The number of referrals to the department in 2013 was 22,000, and the number of referrals has been steadily increasing.

The Pediatric Emergency Department is divided into two main areas: the outer envelope and the inner envelope.
The outer envelope includes:
• A dedicated room for initial assessment and triage of incoming patients.
• Five fast-track physician examination rooms.
• Waiting rooms.

The inner envelope - "the warm zone," includes:
• Twelve units designed for more complex cases.
• Two isolation rooms.
• An area for inhalation treatments.
• A shock and trauma room (with direct access to the ambulance during emergencies).
