One of the most pressing issues in pediatric oncology in Israel is the lack of clinical trials open for children with progressive disease. More than 200 children are treated in Israeli centers today due to resistant relapsed disease, most of them have limited access to a clinical trial.

 The number of clinical trials evaluating new drugs for children with progressive disease in Israel is extremely limited. Parents choosing to have their child enrolled on a clinical trial evaluating new therapies, have many times to leave their homes for a significant period of time. They have to find financial resources to fund long term therapy and stay abroad, and to have the child stay far from family and friends at the last stage of his life.

Israel’s research community consists of some of the leading research institutions in the world. Unfortunately- despite a wealth of cutting edge basic science- only a small fraction of the resulting new data translates into clinical studies which are relevant to our children.

The Aryeh Kluger research center is named after an amazing young teenager who died due to progression of an incurable brain tumor.

 Aryeh’s parents decided to join forces with the Shaare Zedek medical team and the Tel Aviv university cancer center headed by prof Satchi Fainaro -to make a difference through the following critical steps:

1. Creating an active pediatric oncology research community 
2. Improving the access of researchers to funding options and research resources  
3. Enhancing collaboration between researchers and clinicians in Israel
4. Facilitation in new studies development
