The role of the Helsinki Committee is to approve any medical trial to be carried out at the hospital involving patients (always with their informed consent). Its role is to ensure the rights, safety and well-being of the participants in the medical trial, by reviewing and approving the proposed trial and monitoring its course, including necessary adjustments in the safety assessment of the research product, the trial protocol, the informed consent form, etc.
The committee consists of 28 members whose details are provided in the attached document. Among them are public representatives who are religious figures or legal professionals, physicians who are department heads or hold professorial degrees, members of well-known medical schools, internal medicine specialists, pharmacists, nurses, and representatives of the administration.
The committee reviews and approves around 400 new research studies annually at Sheba Medical Center. Additionally, the committee monitors approximately 1000 active research projects each year.
