Medical Genetics Institute

The Medical Genetics Institute at Shaare Zedek Medical Center provides a range of services within the framework of counseling clinics staffed by certified genetic counselors. These clinics offer comprehensive counseling for patients and their families, some of which serve as national treatment and monitoring centers for rare genetic diseases. The institute operates diagnostic laboratories, including the Diagnostic Molecular Genetics Laboratory, Cytogenetics Laboratory, Molecular Pathology Laboratory, and Research Laboratories. Among them are the Stem Cell Research Laboratory, Microarray Laboratory, and Translational Genomics Laboratory. The institute has at its disposal several diagnosis laboratories - Molecular Diagnostic Genetics Laboratory, Cytogenetic Laboratory, Chip Laboratory, and Molecular Pathology Laboratory, as well as several research laboratories, among these is the Stem Cell Research Laboratory. As a center of excellence, the ramifications and implementation of our research extend far beyond the Jerusalem area. Our research has established us as key players on the world stage in research of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes that are associated with breast and ovarian cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
