The Blood Bank

Blood and blood products are valuable, vital, life-saving resources. The Blood Bank of Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem - one of the largest such facilities in Israel - is responsible for blood typing, matching, and supplying blood and blood products to all hospital departments as required, 24/7, for routine activity and in emergencies (trauma, mass casualty events).

There are numerous interfaces between the Blood Bank and the hospital's medical and nursing teams, with a view to optimally tailored products for patients while ensuring maximum patient safety.

The Blood Bank carries ISO 9001 certification by the Institute of Standards.

-Blood Type Determination of the Patient - Identifying the patient's blood type (A, B, AB, O) including the Rh factor.
-Antibody Screen Test in the patient's plasma - Identifying and characterizing clinical antibodies in cases of a positive antibody screen.
-Preparation of Blood Products for Transfusion - Cross-matching blood units tailored to the patient. In cases of a positive antibody screen and the presence of specific antibodies against certain antigens, negative units are selected for transfusion.
-Supply of Blood Products - The blood bank provides various blood products, such as plasma, platelets, cryoprecipitate, and special irradiated products, all tailored to the needs of the patient.
