The Orthopedic Trauma Unit, which is part of the Orthopedic Department at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, treats orthopedic trauma injuries such as long bone fractures, complex fractures, and fractures that require joint replacement (shoulder, elbow). The unit performs surgeries in both regular and day-case hospitalization settings, but the primary focus of the unit's work is post-hospitalization and outpatient follow-up.
The unit is a pioneer in using innovative, minimally invasive methods for fracture fixation, such as MIPO (Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis). The unit's doctors staff the Orthopedic Trauma Room of the Emergency Department (ER) and treat patients with both localized trauma and multi-system trauma (in collaboration with doctors from the General Surgery Department).
Among the treatments offered by the unit are:
-
Percutaneous fracture fixation
-
Treatment of open fractures with an external fixator
-
Treatment of comminuted intra-articular fractures by joint replacement (shoulder, elbow, radial head)
-
Rehabilitation improvement and patient follow-up
-
Treatment of fracture complications: delayed union, non-union, and correction of all fracture deformities
-
Treatment of open fractures with soft tissue damage (in collaboration with the Plastic Surgery Department)
