Dr. Schlesinger stood at the helm of Shaare Zedek for two momentous decades from pre-statehood to the aftermath of the Six Day War. During the War of Independence, Shaare Zedek was the only surgical hospital in Jerusalem that remained accessible, and the hospital witnessed a stream of new patients and casualties on a daily basis. Dr. Schlesinger played a pioneering role in integrating Halacha-based medical ethics ensuring the paramount objective of promoting and maintaining human life.
