Segulah Unit

Assistance to the Elderly

The Segulah Unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center serves as a hub for healthcare rights of hospitalized senior citizens and of family members caring for them. The Segulah Unit staff are available to provide information pertaining to healthcare rights that senior citizens might be eligible for upon their discharge from hospital due to a change in their health condition. The Unit is situated on the 4th floor (entrance level) of the Main Building, adjacent to the Outpatient Clinics, and is managed by a team of trained volunteers under the expert supervision a social worker.

The Segulah Unit initiative, part of the Ministry of Social Equality, extends support to hospitalized senior citizens in the following ways:

  • Thoroughly investigating the entitlements of patients during their hospital stay
  • Guidance on accessing rehabilitation and aid, including support from Kupat Cholim (HMO)
  • Assistance in clarifying rights related to Bituah Leumi (National Insurance) coverage
  • Options for receiving prolonged care stipends
  • Addressing benefits and rights for Holocaust survivors
  • Ensuring that family members caring for hospitalized elderly individuals are informed about their rights

Following the course of treatment after hospital discharge and facilitating the realization of entitlements:

Inquiries can be directed to the Senior Citizens Service Center operated by the Ministry of Social Equality, by calling *8840. Patients who complete personal information forms and provide consent for confidentiality continue to receive support via the center, which can investigate eligibility for various entitlements as senior citizens - including property tax reduction, utility subsidies, income supplements, and the access of Holocaust survivors to grants, benefits, and more.
