Shaare Zedek Medical Center has adopted the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health to allow the mother and baby to stay together from the moment of birth onwards.
Maternity Ward D allows you to choose whichever arrangement you prefer: full rooming-in with zero separation (in Maternity D1 / Maternity D), flexible rooming, or no rooming at all.
The department offers different types of rooms, some with up to 2 beds and some with up to 3. (In total the department holds up to 42 beds).
Maternity D1 (within Maternity Ward D) is a full rooming-in unit. Each room holds two mothers and their babies (there are also 2 single inpatient rooms). The mother and the newborn are admitted to the ward together, and the mother is present at all the treatments and tests that are performed on the newborn during hospitalization.
The rooms are equipped with comfortable nursing chairs, personal drawers, a bathroom and a shower. The space allows for convenient feeding, treatment, and tests for the newborn, and guidance for the mother.
At the disposal of the new mother are dressing gowns, towels, regular pads and frozen pads to relieve discomfort from stitches, a kitchenette with a cold water dispenser, a hot drink area and a refrigerator where you can store personal food items. A detailed instruction booklet for your self-care and care of your baby is available upon request from the nursing staff.
Do not get off your bed by yourself for the first time after delivery. Please call the nurse (using the designated call button at your bed) to help you off your bed for the first time. Call buttons are also installed in every bathroom. If you don't feel well, or are experiencing intensive bleeding or other pains, don't hesitate to call the nurse immediately.
Individual and group instruction is given in a range of subjects to equip the new mothers with knowledge and skills for primary parenting and baby care, including breastfeeding training and explanations relating to medical procedures, tests and treatments.
The nursing staff includes nurses, midwives and lactation consultants who are here for the mother and at her service.
We at Shaare Zedek are happy to provide a pleasant, respectful and embracing hospitalization experience.
