The Emergency Department

About

The Emergency Department at Shaare Zedek Medical Center provides a comprehensive range of emergency medical services to residents of Jerusalem and the surrounding areas. It is the busiest emergency department in the city.

Our uniqueness lies in combining medical expertise with compassionate, patient-centered care. We treat numerous patients simultaneously while recognizing each individual as a person with unique needs, providing the highest standards of professional and advanced medical care.

Important to Know: The Emergency Department is not intended to serve as an alternative for patients seeking specialist consultations due to long waiting times at their health maintenance organizations (HMOs). Nor is it the appropriate setting for expedited testing intended to diagnose non-acute medical conditions.

Nursing in the Emergency Department

The Emergency Department Nursing Team – The Face of the Hospital

The Emergency Department (ED) is the gateway to the hospital. Most patients seeking urgent, unplanned medical care arrive here. It is the patient's first point of contact with the medical services at Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

As the ED nursing team, we understand that we are the first faces patients see and the first healthcare professionals they encounter. In an environment often marked by pain, anxiety, and uncertainty, we see the person behind the patient and act with sensitivity and professionalism to ensure a smooth and effective care process.

The nursing team is responsible for receiving patients upon arrival at the department, conducting an initial triage assessment according to the urgency of their medical condition, and coordinating their care throughout their stay in the department.

This requires extensive medical knowledge and multidisciplinary skills, including resuscitation, caring for critically ill and complex patients, and simultaneously treating patients with varying levels of medical urgency. The team must exercise sound clinical judgment, establish priorities, and function efficiently under pressure and in emergency situations, while maintaining close collaboration with physicians.

We recognize that every patient arriving at the Emergency Department has a family or social support network surrounding them. Therefore, we place particular emphasis on acknowledging the patient's support system and involving family members and loved ones in the care process.

Our goal is to provide high-quality, efficient care to every patient arriving at the Emergency Department, while ensuring that the dignity and respect of both patients and their families are always upheld.
